Tips For Cooking on Your Propane Grill

Once spring and summer arrive in Connecticut and the surrounding areas, people love to get outside and grill up a good meal on a propane grill. If you fall into that category, here are some propane grilling tips that can help you out all throughout the grilling season.
Grilling Tips When Using Propane
- This may go without saying, but grilling should never take place indoors as this creates a buildup of carbon monoxide, which can be deadly. Both grills and propane gas cylinders should be used and stored outside and never in a carport, shed or garage. You also want to make sure your grill is on a level surface and at least five feet away from your house or any other potential fire hazards like trees or outdoor furniture.
- Grill maintenance is important and this includes cleaning. Before your grilling season officially begins, make sure to properly clean your grill. Cleaning helps grills last longer and operate more efficiently. Plus, a clean grill is safer to use than a dirty grill.
- Cleaning after grilling is equally as important. You don’t want any grease remnants left on your grill after cooking – this can potentially cause a fire.
- To avoid a propane gas buildup and reduce the risk of an explosion, you should keep your grill open until you are certain it has been properly lit.
- Never leave a grill unattended and keep kids and pets at a safe distance (we recommend they stay at least three feet away at all times).
- Do not forget to shut your grill off completely and close the cylinder valve before you go off and enjoy your meal.
The Advantages of A Propane Grill
If you are not currently using propane for grilling purposes, you may be asking yourself why you should. Here are some of the benefits of grilling with propane:
- Propane grills can be powered by both a propane box, which connects to a house’s main propane tank, or by refillable propane cylinders. Both these options allow for a great deal of flexibility and means propane grilling can be done anywhere within your outdoor area and at places like beaches and campgrounds.
- You get very precise temperature control and consistency when grilling with propane.
- It’s cheaper. In fact, grilling with propane costs about 50% less than grilling with electricity.
- Since grilling with propane doesn’t require electricity, you can still get your cooking done even in the event of a blackout.
